Heidi Finds Her Bliss

The contest is now closed. Congratulations to Jennifer, Tara, and Kristinia!

Quarterly Bloggy Giveaway Carnival sponsored by Bloggy Giveaways.
Stay tuned until the end for the giveaway.

Once upon a time there was a Heidi.
Homemaker Heidi

The Heidi family had a husband…
Home Office Mr. Frantic

a daughter…
homeschool Newt
Sidenote: Girl Wonder really can spell school. Teacher? Not so much.

and a dog.
Shasta by Gumby
Another sidenote: India Elephant was reluctant to play Shasta again. She was afraid of becoming typecast. Today, the role of Shasta will be played by Gumby.

Heidi loved spending time with her husband.
Heidi loved spending time with her daughter.
Heidi even liked spending time with Shasta. Usually.
But sometimes Heidi missed spending time with Heidi. Alone.

She tried retreating to her sanctuary, but…
No Sanctuary
unfortunately it was not soundproof.

Heidi wanted some alone time, not much – just some, to…
a nap would be nice

or…
Heidi Surfs

or…
Bathing Heidi

The Heidi family is busy, busy, busy, but Mr. Frantic is a great guy. He is working on a plan. A good plan. A plan that includes weekly daddy/daughter dates.

In the meantime Heidi just may have to invest in a pair of…

Sanctuary
Pure bliss.

And now for the giveaway:
Compliments of Chex Mix Bars, the Basket of Indulgence!
Including a box of Turtle Chex Mix Bars, chocolate candles, caramel lotion and spa essentials like a loofah, hand massager, nail brush and spa towel.
Earplugs not included.
Bathing you
I am also giving away one hour of time alone. If you win, I will personally email your family and ask them to please leave you alone. (That should work, right?)

I have three of these to giveaway.
Contest is open to anyone with a valid email address.
To enter, leave a comment answering at least one of the following questions:

  • Where is your sanctuary?
  • What do you do when you have time alone?
  • When was the last time you used the restroom without someone yelling through the door?

I will choose three winners on Saturday. Good luck!

My sanctuary is scrapbooking. I absolutely love it because I can just enjoy my memories of all the happy times from the pictures and put them into a beautifully designed and artistic scrapbook. It’s my favorite thing to do! I’m very sentimental.

  3. In our house we don’t shut the bathroom door, so that’s not a quiet place yet, everyone comes and goes as the bathroom user is using it. But, now that Ian is 6, I am thinking those days are going to be ending, privacy is going to have to be a new word in our house as he ages.

Sanctuary. Hmm… about once every two months I crash on a Sunday. I sit in my huge oversized chair in my bedroom and watch TLC all afternoon. Other than that, I would consider my computer time as my sanctuary. Sure, the family comes and goes into the office, but mainly I am left alone to click click click and tap tap tap.

  4. What a wonderful giveaway! My sanctuary is the gym or walking (quietly) in my neighborhood with my 7 year old. Just feels good to get out and concentrate on something other than whatever has happened or is happening at that moment.

  5. I love your “Adventures in Heidi.” It always brings a smile to my face. I can so relate to your current situation, too. My husband does not work from home, but I have been homeschooling my two beautiful children for six years.

My sanctuary changes from time to time. I go to a Bible Study twice a month with my girlfriends. I love that! I have been known to go to high school sporting events with my parents, but not my husband or children. I also have to admit to an addiction to Webkinz. I love to play games on my children’s Webkinz accounts. It is an escape for me. I get to enjoy using my brain without answering anyone else’s questions.

Your giveaway sounds lovely. Maybe I’ll be fortunate enough to win!

    2) I am an internet addict.
    3) My family generally doesn’t bother me when I’m in the bathroom, except my daughter cries, but my husband tries to handle it so it’s not that bad. Probably just a couple of days ago.

If the littlest boy would get over his cold (3 weeks now) I would consider that a sanctuary. We are beginning to wonder if his grouchiness is a phase.

I think I might’ve used the bathroom in peace sometime last week, but it’s hard to remember. 2 boys under age 3 = no peace for mama.

I have a little craft room (aka walk in closet) that is my happy place. When I get time to myself (which is pretty often because of my wonderful hubs) I either craft, read or blog surf.

Did you say something about being in the bathroom by myself?!? Hmmm… That would have been before my son was mobile. The other day I tried to be slick and locked the door. About two seconds later I see little fingers under the door. Then he says in a high pitched voice “Mommy makey potty?”, “Oh good job sitting toyette Mommy!” The whole time I could hear my hubs cracking up! Ya, can you tell we’re potty training?!? LOL

Starting next week, my hubby is working from home too. and I home school too although I can’t promise my students can spell school. I think we are in the same situation completely.

I take a bath EVERY night after the kids go to bed. Without that time ALONE I would be even crazier than now. Oh, and someone was screaming and knocking on my bathroom door about 15 minutes ago.

I suppose I find some alone time in the shower on the weekends when Husband is home. But even then I can hear the screams and the cries. Ear plugs? Sounds like a great idea.

Actually, when we got our dog 5 years ago was when the not being able to go to the bathroom by myself started…so there is a chance that he followed me in when the girls were gone but is much quieter so I don’t remember him being there…

  51. The last time I went to the bathroom without being whined at throught the door was 3 years ago. What? You say, “Tami, You don’t have any children living at your house so what are you talking about?”

While it’s true I don’t have children I do have 5 cats. If I am ever bold enough to go to the bathroom and close the door I will inevitably have as many kitty paws as can fit waving at me from under the door. The are certain that I am in there keeping all of the sardines to myself and they protest loudly. They wave. They cry. They scratch the door. They fight with each other.

Then when I open the door they breezily step away and I can hear each one of them say…”I didn’t want to go in there…it was everyone else”, as they saunter away.

If I don’t my 3 year old has figured out if he sticks a qtip in the small hole on the door knob he can pick the lock. Also if I lock the door the little guy knocks all my towels and wash cloths off the closet shelves. But I think the best quiet time is when my daughter is at school and if my son takes a nap.

  54. Last Friday I convinced hubs to stop by home prior to going to the hardware store for the last bits of the latest project and pick up our son. About two seconds after handing off our little man to his daddy, I announced that I was taking a bath. And even though hubs took a sweetly long amount of time at the hardware store, I was still in the tub when they got home. But even though the little man was asking where mama was when they got home, my sweet hubs made sure he left me alone until I was done.

That was both the last thing I did for me _and_ the last time I made it through time in the bathroom without someone knocking or just walking in (now that little man’s tall enough to open doors).

    And your story was AWESOME!

Walking to the mailbox… sometimes I walk really, really slow and imagine I’m walking through the store by myself without my daughter saying, “Mama, this, mama, look! Mama Sammy want!” The time I do, or did, get alone is after both kids are asleep, which used to be around 9, but slowly my 3 year old started staying up later and later to stay with mommy and now I’m ready to crash at 3 AM and she is STILL awake. Thankfully she doesn’t start school for another year. When I do get free time to myself I like to spend it browsing around online or taking a much needed nap. I rarely have the problem of being yelled at THROUGH the bathroom door because I can’t even CLOSE the bathroom door!

  82. My sanctuary is sadly my bathroom, though there is a nice soaking tub in it which I use whenever I feel I have enough time. My daughter can’ talk yet, but she has a nice pair of lungs on her so I can hear her in her crib no matter where I am. Hubby is just as bad, asking me to look at various things around the house despite the fact that I’m the one that doesn’t leave here so I’ve already notice them.

  111. Oh I really LOVED the creative way you did this post! So original for sure! Ok, now to answer the questions: my private resting spot is usually in my car over by the local college pond watching people go by and the ducks swim lazily across the water. When I get a rare moment alone, I usually go online or read a book. and finally, it has been about 3 days since I wasn’t followed to the bathroom by my daughter or my son hasn’t yelled thru the door-the cats still follow me in and watch, does that count?

Where is your sanctuary? My bed. Assuming there are not kids, cats, or a husband there…. and most of the time there is some combination of the above.

What do you do when you have time alone? Read. Surf. Eat things without anyone telling me how gross they are (french onion soup) and without anyone wanting a bite every two seconds.

When was the last time you used the restroom without someone yelling through the door? Well, at home, that would be hard to say. However, at work today (I work PT) my coworkers did not bother me, LOL.

When was the last time you used the restroom without someone yelling through the door? It’s practically an every day thing. With 4 other people living in the house, they’re always wanting something!

When was the last time I went to the bathroom without someone yelling through the door? The last time, actually. Which was only about an hour ago. Unfortunately, the yelling for mommy continued the entire time I was in there, while daddy tried futilely to calm the yelling. It stopped when I came back out.

I can’t remember going to the bathroom in peace in the last 5 years. At least, not in daylight hours. Maybe this is why I’m such a night-owl.
